1st dan Black Belt Testing Procedures |
Does Hapkido Taekwondo International promote martial artists to the 1st dan Black Belt?
Yes. We have been contact by many practitioners from around the world who have studied either Hapkido of Taekwondo and though they were close to 1st dan Black Belt promotion, for various reasons, they never took the promotional test.
If you wish to be tested for 1st dan Black Belt this is the process:
1. Fill out our application
2. Make payment.
3. Provide us with a Video Tape, DVD, or CD Video of you performing various techniques.
NOTE: We do not expect a professional quality video presentation. Simply one where our Testing Committee can clearly see your techniques.
TAEKWONDO
PART I: You must perform all of the Taekwondo forms from White Belt to 1st dan Black Belt. We accept forms performed in all of the accepted patterns.
PART II: You will need to perform the kicks of Taekwondo; including, but not limited to: The Front Kick, Side Kick, Roundhouse Kick, Axe Kick, Hook Kick, Stepping Side Kick, Jumping Front Kick, and Jumping Side Kick.
PART III: We will need to see you performing several examples of Three Step Sparring with a training partner.
PART IV: On the video tape you must also provide us with a segment of you in a sparring session with a training partner.
HAPKIDO
PART I: You must performing a complete array of Hapkido Self-Defense Techniques -- demonstrating your competence at both the basic and advanced level.
This demonstration should including, but is not limited to:
Five (5) Straight Arm Techniques,
Five (5) Cross Arm Techniques,
Five (5) Two Hand Techniques,
Five (5) Front and Rear Choke Hold Escapes,
Ten (10) Optional Techniques which may include Should Grabs, Hair Grabs, Belt Grabs or additional examples of techniques from the previous sections, etc.
Ten (10) Punch Defenses.
Ten (10) Kick Defenses
Ten (10) Defenses Against Weapons; including, but not limited to: knife and club attacks.
PART II: You must also provide a demonstration of you performing the various Hapkido kicking techniques; including, but not limited to: The Front Kick, Side Kick, Roundhouse Kick, Hook Kick, Stepping Side Kick, Jumping Front Kick, and Jumping Side Kick.
Note: This is the minimal number of techniques which we would like to see demonstrated on your Hapkido Video Test. Please feel free to demonstrate additional techniques which you feel represent your level of skill and expertise.
What is the cost?
The price for 1st dan Black Belt Testing is $250.00.
Our standard promotion fee is $200.00, plus $50.00 for our Testing Committee to review your tape. If our testing board does not feel that you are currently at the Black Belt level, the $200.00 promotion fee will be refunded, but the the $50.00 viewing fee will not be refunded.
