Can I advance my Black Belt dan via Hapkido Taekwondo International?
Yes. Hapkido Taekwondo International offers rank advancement to qualified martial artists.
For an untold number of reasons people leave their original instructor or organization. We here at Hapkido Taekwondo International provide a method for established practitioners to continue advancement through the ranks.
Hapkido Taekwondo International uses the accepted standard for promotion commonly employed in the martial arts -- and we do not deviate from this standard.

The time between 1st and 2nd dan is approximately two years. The time between 2nd and 3rd dan is approximately three years. The time between 3rd and 4th dan is approximately four years. The time between 4th and 5th dan is approximately five years. |
To advance your rank with Hapkido Taekwondo International you must:
1. Fill out our application.
2. Provide us with copies of ALL of your rank certificates.
3. Provide us with your martial art history via a resume or written biography.
If the Testing Committee feels that you possess the appropriate qualifications for advancement, through your ongoing participation in the arts, then your advancement will be approved. If you have not been actively practicing or teaching the martial arts, our Testing Committee may ask for a video tape presentation of your techniques.
Note: If the Hapkido Taekwondo International Testing Committee feels that you do not have the appropriate qualifications for Rank Promotion, your fees will be refunded.

Will I need to apply of Hapkido Taekwondo International
Organizational Membership before I submit an application for rank
advancement?
No. If your rank advancement is approved by our Testing Committee you will automatically become a certified member of the organization.

You will be taken to the HTI application form.
It is essential to note that Hapkido Taekwondo International
does not issue rank promotion to those individuals with dubious
credentials. Therefore, please do not apply for rank promotion if
you are not an active practitioner with the necessary
time-in-rank.
In addition, Hapkido Taekwondo International does its best to verify the information provided to us by perspective members, seeking rank advancement. So, please do not supply us with fake or falsified certificates. It is unfair to us and it is unfair to the martial art community at large.
As our director Scott Shaw explains, 'If you are altering your martial art certificates, you are not only lying to others but you are lying to yourself, as well.'
