What is Hapkido Taekwondo International?Founded in 1979, Hapkido Taekwondo International is an established independent organization designed to provide valid internationally recognized affiliation and certification for the modern martial artist.

What types of membership does Hapkido Taekwondo International offer?Hapkido Taekwondo International offers two types of membership: Associate and Black Belt Membership.
Associate Membership:
Associate Membership is for those individuals who are either not yet at the Black Belt level or those practitioner who simply wish to become part of Hapkido Taekwondo International without formally registering their Black Belt rank.
Black Belt Membership:
Black Belt Membership is for those Martial Artists who already posses a Black Belt. These individuals can join Hapkido Taekwondo International at the Black Belt level. To do this, you must provide us with a copies of ALL of your Black Belt certificates, up to whatever dan you currently possess. You will then be registered in our database, recertified in this organization, and receive a Hapkido Taekwondo International Black Belt Rank Certificate.

What styles of the Martial Arts does Hapkido Taekwondo International recognize?Hapkido and Taekwondo. For those individuals who possess ranking in other Korean based systems, we may be able to recognize your rank in Hapkido or Taekwondo.
Will my Hapkido Taekwondo International Rank Diploma list my style?Yes. Your style: be it Hapkido or Taekwondo will be listed on your Rank Certificate.
I am a Black Belt certified in both Hapkido and Taekwondo, can Hapkido Taekwondo International recertify my various ranks on one diploma?No. As most people who are ranked in more than one style possess various dans, we find that it is most appropriate to certify or recertify each singular style separately.
You can, however, obtain Hapkido Taekwondo International ranking in your various styles by making separate applications for each rank.
Can I test for my 1st dan Black Belt via Hapkido Taekwondo International?Yes, if you are not yet a certified 1st dan Black Belt but possess all of the necessary requirements you can gain 1st dan Certification from Hapkido Taekwondo International. For information Click Here: 1st dan Testing.
Can I advance my Black Belt dan via Hapkido Taekwondo International?Yes. Hapkido Taekwondo International offers rank advancement up to 5th dan to qualified martial artists. CLICK HERE for more information.
For rank advancement above the 5th dan, you will need to contact us and clearly describe your training, your rank, your organization, your teaching situation, and your reason for requesting Rank Advancement or Rank Recertification above the 5th dan.
Does Hapkido Taekwondo International issue Instructor and Master Instructor Certificates?Yes. We issue both Instructor and Master Instructor Certificates.
The Instructor Certificate is issued to those Black Belts who are teaching or have taught the martial arts.
As per established tradition, the Master Certification is issued only to those practitioners at or above the 5th dan level.
The Instructor or Master Certification can take place concurrently with your Rank Certification or Recertification.

Can I certify and advance my student's through Hapkido Taekwondo International?Yes. First you must possess Hapkido Taekwondo International Black Belt Certification and hold a Hapkido Taekwondo International Instructor or Master Instructor Certificate. Then, you will need to register your school with Hapkido Taekwondo International.
The School Charter can take place concurrently with your Instructor or Master Certification.

Are members of Hapkido Taekwondo International students of Scott Shaw?No. Scott Shaw only trains a very small group of advanced students that have been with him for many years and he takes on very few new students.
Does Hapkido Taekwondo International offer additional certification through other organizations such as the World Taekwondo Federation or the Korea Hapkido Federation?No. As a fully independent organization we do not.
