Planned Parenthood
Scott Shaw
I was driving home from having lunch in San Pedro; listen to Jonesy's Jukebox on the radio. Steve Jones, probably most noted for being the guitar player in the Sex Pistons, hosts this radio show.
Normally, when he has guests, they are musicians. But, this day there were two girls who were talking about New Age philosophy.
They proceeded to discuss reincarnation. They stated the reason we keep reincarnating is that each time we are sent to a new physical body is because of the fact that we want to learn a very specific thing about life. They continued, of course, we don't realize this until we die and then, once we have left our physical body, we can analyze whether or not we actually learned the knowledge that we had hoped to acquire. They also stated that what takes place before we enter our current body is that we each, (somewhere up there, in some ethereal heaven), actually choose the parents that we are born to in order to actualize our path of specific knowledge acquisition.
I listened for a few moments and then changed station. I was just dumfounded by the borrowed knowledge that they were spewing -- words that had been regurgitated by so many others before them. I mean, since the moment I entered the spiritual path, all those years ago, I have heard versions of that same nonsensical discourse spoken by those who want to appear spiritual -- hoping to sound as if they know some deep-dark secret about the origin and evolution of life. What nonsense!
This is the problem with the novice on the spiritual path - they believe everything that they hear and then they want to repeat it. Most, however, never leave this novice level of spiritual consciousness and, thus, never rise to a state of true wisdom. This is why they simply continue to repeat what they heard - be it true or false.
But, let's take a minute here and think about what those two ladies were saying. They claim that we each choose our own parents before we are born. If this is the case, it means that our parents have no choice in the matter. They are simply infested with a soul that has chosen them. If this were true, that would mean that only the ethereal-bound entities have the right of choice and the living are simply the receptacles of the desires of the ethereal being that want to use them as the vehicle to learn what they desire to learn. If you were to believe this explanation it would detail that the ethereal beings are simply desire bound entities that are seeking something - good or bad and are using the bodies, in association with the physical, psychological, and the sociological makeup, of the earth bound parents to provide them a pathway to fulfilling their desired ends.
This is the problem with humanity as a whole. Instead of seeking the truth from within, humans concoct ridiculous abstract rational for the meaning of life. Then, the design elaborate philosophic rational to explain why these developed ideologies are happening. And, this previously described discourse is just one example. Each religion and philosophy, throughout time, has designed its own set of ridiculous tenets that it then claims to be the truth and orchestrates intricate stories so that they can claim it has factual possibilities.
Seriously, if one were existing in the ethereal, heavenly realm, why would they need to return to earth and this physical existence to learn anything? Aren't the ethereal, heavenly realms the source-point for all knowledge? I mean, come on, if you are in the ethereal realm and have the ability to do things like choose your parents, which means you have dominion over humans, why would you need to learn anything from the human race?
But, this is the human condition; we want to explain the abstract realms of, "Why." But, "Why," will never be explained.
From the dawn of human consciousness to the end of it, there were and will be those who claim to know. But, if what they knew was the absolute truth, there would be no question and no other, "Knower," would ever be claiming a different set of religious possibilities or stating that what another person believes is false.
Knowledge is a personal perspective. What you know is what you know. But, be careful; don't confuse what you believe with what you know, because they are two completely different things.
Ultimately, we all just are. If you can accept that it is not important to know all of the answers of the universe, then you are free. If you are free then you don't have to recite someone else's brand of borrowed knowledge. From this, the nonsense of humanity is laid to rest and all of humanity becomes free.
Zen is Free.
