Be Positive
Kind of funny, I guess… In that, “I guess,” sort of way…
My lady, this late PM, questioned me about the music I was listening to on the screen of the TV in the after-hours nonsense that is my night. But, like I told her, “Amazon Prime gets my Goth algorithm way better than does YouTube.” Plus, they also don’t have all of those stupid, non-stop commercials. Yet, if you want visuals, late night, YouTube is pretty much all you gots...
You know, I don’t really know how to explain this in a politically correct sort of way but, there are way too many aging Goths making music and creating videos. …People that are way too old to be steppin’ in front of the camera, dancing around like they’re twenty, and all of that kind of stuff.
Let me step back just a bit…
As I was folding laundry today. And yes, I do wash and fold my own laundry. Scary, right? Anyway, I pulled up my Amazon Prime algorithm and listened to the music that they claims is, “My Soundtrack.” It was all right on: The Sisters of Mercy, The Mission, HIM, VV, The 69 Eyes, Twin Tribes, Clan of Xymox, to name only a few of the more known examples…
When I fold-up the laundry, and put the clean clothing in their appropriate drawers, I always kick on the sounds. Prime, just gets it. I can kick back, do my business, and listen to the tunes.
YouTube, on the other hand, they plaster all of these old faces in my face. I just have to flip through them. Move onto something else.
I don’t know what it is, really??? Well, I guess I do get it on that certain level of the whatever; people want to be stars. They want their face in the crowd. But, when your face is too old to be broadcast to the crowd, then what? Do you/should you keep hammering it out there? No one wants to look at an old person trying to be young.
You know, a million years ago, I wrote a couple of articles… One was, “The Scream Queens Are Getting Old.” The other one was, “No One Wants to See Old People Dance.”
It was sad, really… I thought/realized how these once young beautiful women had sur come to the hands of age. And, don’t get me wrong here. I’m not throwing shade. We all get old. Me, I’m sixty-seven. Ask any twenty-year-old about that age and they will tell you that’s fucking ancient. But, these women who based their careers on beauty and had now/then become the age of a grandmother, yet they were still out there and trying to be young. I don’t know?
The other one/the other article, was based on this aging local TV newscaster I saw entering this nightclub one night, filled to the brim with the young. This was way back in the day. He was old. His wife was old. Yet, they went in there, hit the dance floor, and danced the dance from some age gone past. Danced, trying to be young. But, they were not. No one wants to see old people dance.
Maybe they had fun, I don’t know? But, what it presented to the world was… Well… You know…
But, back to the storyline… I mean, the music that came to be defined as Goth, growing out of what was originally titled, “Death Rock,” the people from way back then are all around my age or older. The next gen came and they aren’t much younger. Sure, I’ve notice, in the past couple of years there has been this major resurgence of Goth Culture, and that’s fine; equally the new and the young. But, what I’m speaking about, and maybe I better get to the point, Act Your Age!
I know some people consider bands like Depeche Mode to be on the fringes of Goth. I never really thought of them like that but… The point being, like three years ago they released a really good song with a music video, Ghosts Again. There, they’re doing their business but embracing their age. And, that’s a good thing, right? Be who and what you are.
I mean, I believe we all see it every now and then, the old dressing very young; attempting to re-embrace a different time in their life. Or, like the Old Guy who tries to pick up on the young waitress or just the young someone in the Out There. They just make themselves look stupid! Just because a Server smiles at you does not mean they want to hook up. They just want a good tip.
Now, I get the other side of the issue. Me, I feel very young. I certainly do not feel anywhere near the definition of my biological age. But, I don’t let that make me pretend I am anything but what I am.
I don’t know??? Music Video or not, it’s just hard to watch people not realizing their age. What do you think?
