The Scott Shaw Blog Be Positive

The Enlightenment Paradigm

You know, it is not unusual for people who read this blog to contact me and ask me some questions about something I said. All good. Happy to answer. One of the questions I commonly get is why I don’t just write about Zen and God and Yoga and Hinduism and Buddhism and Taoism and Zazen, and Pranayama, and Nirvana and all that kind of stuff, as that is obviously what my life, my entire life, has been revolved around.  To answer…
Way back in the way back when I wrote an article titled, “Enlightenment is Easy, It’s Life That’s Hard.” I believe that really sums up my feelings about a lot of Life and a lot of Spiritual Stuff.
People, even people who have walked the Spiritual Path for their entire life, project things like Enlightenment and Spiritual Awareness and God Consciousness off into the Out There. Many believe, “That is way too hard. I can never achieve that.” But, that belief is fundamentally wrong. Enlightenment is Easy. God Consciousness can Be Known. All you have to do is understand that it can be understood. How do you do that? Understanding. Allowing the Essence of the All and the Everything to enter you. Do not separate yourself from your own ability to Know.
At that heart of Zen, and many other Eastern Religions and Philosophic Traditions, is the understanding that we All are Already Enlightened. All we have to do is to Release Ourselves from All of the Nonsense that has been feed into our minds about our own unworthiness and inability to embrace the purists essence of consciousness, and KNOW.
I believe it’s Easy. I believe it’s Doable.
Okay, Enlightenment is Easy. But, then what?
Then what is… We are all trapped in this physical existence. We are all dominated by all the Egos, the Powers that Be, the Reality Out There that we possess no control over. Yes, Enlightenment is Easy. If you allow it to be easy. But, that does not take you away from the Reality of the Reality of Human Life where you have to eat, drink, sleep, have a roof over your head, pay your bills, and all that other LIFE STUFF that goes hand-in-hand with that actuality.
You are alive. You live. You are not some superhuman. Thus, you must deal with the Reality of this Reality; enlightened or not.
As the ancient Zen saying goes, “Before enlightenment chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.”
So, why don’t I only speak and write about all of that Spiritual Stuff? Because that’s easy. It’s all the other stuff of life that is not.
The fact is, at least in my mind, all of the things that I write about in this blog are spiritually based. Yeah. I may speak about all kinds of Reality Junk, but Reality Junk is the stuff that life is made of. You can’t escape it. All you can do is to find your own best method to transverse all of the nonsense associated with it. Thus and therefore, that is what I write about REAL LIFE—to perhaps help you find a way to live it more consciously.
“Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.”
And maybe, just maybe, have a little fun in the process and maybe create a bit of Art as you do.
