Be Positive

You Have to be Willing to End Up Where You End Up

Many people, in fact, most people live a life not defined by the expansive challenge. As age comes upon them, they do less and less and less, until virtually everything they do becomes expected. What they do, they have done before. In some cases, the more a person does nothing, they more they wish to do nothing.

From a spiritual perspective, this life and lifestyle is almost the projected ideal example of existence. For with no doing, nothing is left undone. With no doing, no karma is created. The problem with this formula is, however, most people do not use non-doing as a meditative tool. They simply fall into a pattern of non-doing. From this, when nothing is nothing then nothing is done and one spends a lifetime with no new accomplishments or realizations.

Many people fall into a pattern of non-doing. There are many reason for this, but most of them are simply excuses. Ultimately, they are a means and a reason not to try. If you don’t try, you won’t fail. But also, you will have no experience(s), equaling a life defined by what? Answer: What was not.

This lifestyle is also the reason so many people only speak about their past. …A time when their doing was doing. They remember then as there is nothing to remember now.

So, here’s the challenge: Go and do something. Go and do something new, unique, and different.

No matter where you live, there is something that you can go and do differently. Something that you have not done before.

If you want to amplify this challenge, here’s a suggestion if you really just don’t know what to do: Go outside into a crowded area of people. Notice someone walking in some obvious direction; follow them. Follow them to where they go. If it is a store, go shopping there. If it's a restaurant, grab a bite to eat. If it is a coffee house, order a latte. If it is a movie, go and see a film. If it is a church, go inside and communicate with god.

You can even take this to a greater level if you have the time and/or the inclination. Get in your car, go someplace where people are on the move. Maybe you will see a travel trailer. Follow that travel trailer to their location; wherever they end up. Go as far as they go. Think about it, you will have been ushered into an entirely new experience and you never know what will happen.

Back in the day, here in L.A., there used to be places where those of us who rode Harleys would congregate. Most of us didn’t know each other; at least not initially. A group of people would be hopping on their bikes. They took off and I/we would take off with them. I never knew where we would end up. Sometimes it was Neptune's up at Ventura County line. Sometime it was the Rock Shop in the Santa Monica Mountains. Sometimes it was a bar. Sometimes it was a party at somebody’s house. The one thing it never was, was the same. Meaning, you have to be willing to end up where you end up.

Now, I’m not suggesting that you go and get all stalker-like on someone. The person or persons you follow probably doesn’t want to know you. So, don’t be weird if you use this method to expand your horizons. I’m just suggesting that this is a tool to find that NEW—that NEW that you are not currently living. Plus, there is a lot of way to try the NEW. But, if you are not one of those people who can easily push yourself to do the NEW, then maybe following someone else can guide you towards NEW life experience and realizations.

You can do the same thing everyday and never have a new experience. You can hide from the world. Or, you can get out there and make you life worth living and develop memories worth remembering. Try it. What do you have to lose?
