Unpaid Internship

For someone who is really anti movie and/or music reviewer… In fact, I am not a fan of pretty much anyone who critiques any of the arts.  I won’t go into the whys and the wherefores here, as I done it too many other places…. But, I will say that, this being said, it is kind of strange that I am an avid reviewer of places like hotels and restaurants and shops and the like.

I mean, I’ve been Yelp Elite for twelve years and counting. And, I am a (so-deemed) Superstar on TripAdvisor for both Reviews and Photographs. Plus, a top-of-the-line overall listed, “Authority,” on that website, as I exist in the top one percent of views on the site. Weird, huh?

I mean, I travel a lot, eat out a lot, and shop a lot. So… But, it all started when I got really fucked over when I took one of my Rolex watches to be serviced by this one watch shop. Not only did they do a bad job, but it also stopped working like three times after the fact. Thus, I began my review(ing) adventure.

The thing about reviewing is, it takes time. If you want to play in the Big Leagues, your reviews have to be well worded and extensive. They can’t just be, “Yum, yum, I like this place.” Or, “Uck! Bad…” You have to explain why and how and where and…

Like my lady proclaimed, in regard to her own reviews, “I’m an unpaid intern,” because you do all of this/that for free.

But, in and of all of that sort of thing, I believe it is making a contribution. If you can read about someone else’s truthful experiences, it helps you make your choices; right? I mean, I know I read reviews before I choose a hotel or a restaurant or a…

Anyway, I guess this all comes down to the question, what contribution are you making to the grander life-scape of reality? What are you giving to others? What are you doing to help others? And, would you be willing to do whatever it is you feel you are doing for free?

Think about it…
