White Man Dancing

There’s always the joke about the fact that white people can’t dance. I don’t know??? I would dispute that fact. Not to get too personal, but I had/have a lot of rhythm.

I was just letting YouTube guide my music video watching stream, and up pops George Michaels,
Outside. Great song. Great music video. Great dancer. …Great, for a white guy.

Sadly, he is long dead by this point in time.

You know, an actor and I, who I was friends with, were actually cast as two solo dancers in this movie based around a hip hop group, way back in the way back when. They shot a lot of takes around us. Two white guys. Both with really long hair, dancing. It was like 1990 or so.

I used to love to dance. There was a period of a decade or so where my bro Vinchenzo and I were out almost every night of the week at the clubs around Hollywood and beyond. He was a great dancer too. A lot of rhythm.

The thing is, you’ve got to know when to call it a day. And, this goes to all areas of your life. You’ve got to know when enough is enough and when you step beyond that enough, all you become is a joke.

Like I’ve said forever, no one wants to see an old person dance.

Next up came,
White Light. Another great song and music video my George Michaels. Fifteen years deep. At least so it tells me on the TV screen. …Maybe longer?

The thing is… The thing about life is… You’ve really got to know when to quit.

I remember when Vinchenzo and I were still semi young. We used to go to this club on Tuesday nights called the Cathouse. There would be this very-very old guy, lost from some generation gone past. He’d be on the dance floor, dancing his heart out to the Heavy Metal music of the era. Dancing all alone. Vinchenzo used to say, “That’ll be us.” Or, “That’s what I want to become.” But, Vinchenzo fell away. Had a kid. Good for him! Me, I did what I did. And, one way or the other, the dancing eventually stopped.

Could I still dance? Absolutely! Should I dance being an Old Guy? Probably not. That does not mean that the rhythm does not still ring out in my brain. When a good dance tack comes on the TV or the radio or the… Do I not want to dance? Absolutely! But, you just have to know your placement in life.

So, as you dance your way thought your life, understand that maybe you possess the rhythm, maybe you have the moves, but time is the master of all of us, and if you live and act beyond the truth of your reality, all you look like is a fool.
