Be Positive
I forever find it interesting… Interesting, the price tag that people attach to my creative whatevers. Some are way below what I would consider a good and fair price. Most, however, are way beyond what I believe anyone would pay. Yet, it both cases, most of the time, I am wrong. Bought and Sold.
This latest thought process was brought to my mind, via my field of vision, recently via the good old eBay when a few of my VHS tapes have come up and upon the open market. First, a VHS copy of Guns of El Chupacabra was offered. It was obviously one sold by Conrad Brooks at one of the celebrity shows he used to frequent.
Conrad was a great guy! One of those people who truly lived in an era of a time gone past. As an actor, he performed like he was in one those films from the 1940s or before. I loved it! He couldn’t remember two lines. But, let him improv or feed him one line at a time and he was good to go.
Anyway… The reason I know the tape was one of the original Conrad offerings was it said, Conrad Brooks, Guns of El Chupacabra on the label. I actually believe I had that VHS tape printed for Conrad, as it looks like one from a run I had done for Conrad in the later years of VHS.
Conrad used to hit Don and I up all the time for tapes to sell at his shows. Once upon a time, in the long ago and the far-far away, we used to actually have cartons of fully designed VHS tapes, in full color boxes, of movies that Conrad was in printed just for him. Years later, I threw away boxes, full of VHS tapes of movies like Rollergator and Baby Ghost, starring Conrad.
Whomever put Chup up on eBay was only asking forty dollars for it and it was gone in a heartbeat before I even got the notice that it was for sale. Not that I would have bought it. But…
Now, this brings us to Rollergator and Toad Warrior. Someone is selling VHS screener copies of both for those movies on eBay right now.
Rollergator, they are asking seven hundred and fifty dollars. What??? I have a bunch of them. I would love to get that much for each of them. I’d be rich!!!
But, I’m pretty sure no one is going to pay that much.
Rollergator, it looks like it might be a tape produced from the time Don and I had some of our Beta Masters ripped off and a company was selling some of our Zen Films as if they had the right to do so. They did not.
Toad Warrior, I don’t know??? I think it’s some sort of a bootleg, as we never released a copy with that label on it. So??? But, for three hundred dollars, it can be yours.
Again, I have a bunch of the REAL original screener copies of that Zen Film stuffed somewhere in my storage unit. If I could sell them for that price, I’d be rich!!!
Anyway… This is just a thought and a mention and a question about the reality of life and the value we place upon things; be they rare or otherwise. Like the old saying goes, “You get what you pay for.” Or do you???
Here’s the kicker… In the past, when people have asked me for original VHS or screen copies of my Zen Film, and if they weren’t just trying to make a buck off of them on eBay or elsewhere, I have given them a copy, no charge. I even paid the shipping.
Question for the day… What is anything really worth?
