Be Positive

What is it You Want to Do Today?

I have long been an advocate of the fact that you should do something special every day. It doesn’t have to be big or expensive or anything like that. It just has to be something that you like to do and makes you feel that specific kind of way.

I get it, we are all wrapped up in our lives and there always seems to be all of these/those things that we are required to do. For some, sure, they really love what they do to make that living and for them they thrive on whatever energy that provides. That’s great!  For most, however, they really need to take a moment and to step away and chart out that place or that something where they can take a moment, relax, and just exist in whatever perfection they are offered in doing that whatever it is they really like to do.

For everyone, it’s different. There’s no right or wrong answer. To each their own, as the old saying goes. But, you have to do it!

Even for me, who has practiced this philosophy for decades, sometimes I forget and I let myself slip into the mundane and the necessary.

One of the big problems I find in the practice and the development of this thinking is that, times change and sometimes the things we love to do either go away or they become too hard to live.  For example, I used to love to go to this one Starbucks in the afternoon, around two o’clock, kick back, watch the day, and just live in the moment for a few moments enjoying my latte and whatever snack I grabbed. Then, the closed it. Gone was what I used like to do.

Similarly, back in the day, every Thursday afternoon you could find me at The Original Farmer’s Market in L.A. That’s when the L.A. Weekly, the great local newspaper, would be delivered to the newsstand that was there. I’d drive up from Redondo, grab the paper, order up one of the great strawberry waffles and lattes from this one stand, sit back and live the experience. But, the L.A. Weekly was no more. The drive, due to all the L.A. traffic that has gotten so much worse, was just such a problem—equally, no fun. So, that dream was over.

But, I guess that’s just the reality of reality, and the way you have to live through it. Things will change. What you love may not be there forever. So, you must evolve.

The main thing you must do—the main thing you must find is that something special that you can do every day. And remember, this does not have to be just one thing. It can be many things. But, every day you should do it—do that something that makes you feel that special kind of way. Because without something like that in your life, what is the point of living?

So, what is it you want to do today?
