How Much is Your Life Worth?

How much is your life worth? I’ll let you know the answer to that question in a moment.

I was in this large antique store yesterday, and something caught my eye.

For those of us of a certain age, you will remember that if you went to public school, (I don’t know about private school), each year they would take a photograph of the students. Those photos were oftentimes not very good but… In any case, near the end of the school year, they would offer to sell you a set, in varying sizes, of that photograph. If you bought it, you would also get an 8X10 sheet of small photos presenting all of your classmates. Remember???

Anyway, as I was walking through the store, this photo album caught my eye. It was opened to a page that presented one of those class photos. Looking at it, it was dated to the early 1950.

I picked up the photo album and checked it out. In association with class pictures over a number of years, it also presented all of these childhood photographs of this one young blonde girl growing up. It also had a few awards of merit and things like that from her school years. This caused me to wonder what had happened to this once young girl. I goggled her, and as she had a rather unique family name, her obituary photo immediately popped up. There she was, the onetime young blonde girl, now/then very old in the photo. Gone. Passed away.

Someone had obviously simply discarded this young girl, turned adult, childhood photo album. Probably to this woman, and maybe to her immediately family, those photos truly meant something—a reminder of a life lived. But then, whomever took ultimate possession of that album didn’t care about the memory or the memories of that woman and tossed it to the wind, ending up in an antiques store. I thought to buy, to hold onto to that woman’s life just a little bit longer. To give her/the world that one last glance at the memories of a person’s life that was once alive. But, I decided to leave that to someone else.

Even more than this, think about your own life. Think of all of the memories you have. Think of all of the people you’ve met, the experiences you’ve had, the feelings, the emotions, the loves, the hates, the all, and the everything. Just like this woman, you too… Someday you will be gone, and no one will cared about what you care about. Really, think about it…

So, how much is your life worth? Let me answer that question for you, $15.00. That was the price tag on the photo album.
