Be Positive
A couple of funny things I encountered over the past couple of days…
The other day, I was driving home, and I noticed a license plate on a car that said, “TOAD WAR.” That made me smile. I don’t know??? I probably doubt it… But, was that in reference to the Zen Film??? One way or the other, it was a strange/interesting one.
I had a personal plate on my car for a number of years. For those of you who know, you know what it was. But eventually, I realized that I prefer the anonymity of driving through traffic with nothing really to take notice of. So, I let it go. I still have the plates stuffed away behind some stuff on a shelf in my kitchen. But, that’s not really any part of this tale.
The other funny/interesting thing that happened to me is that I went into this store that I pop into every now and I got to momentarily speaking to this one young lady who works there. She asks, “Are you retired?” Wow, that hit me like a ton of bricks. People generally think I’m younger than I am. But, to be asked that question.
In fact, and in truth, I guess by the standards of society, I have reached, or passed, that age. But…
I guess that’s the goal of many; isn’t it? To retire. To get away from the drudgery of whatever job it is they are doing, year after year. But, that is a thought that never even crossed my mind.
Though, I imagine, some would say that I should retire. But, my answer to the Shop Girl, “You don’t retire from what I do.”
I mean, I never stop thinking about creating and being and… Pretty much my every thought is about the what I can do next, how can I make this Life Space better, and what can I give back to the world; via art, music, philosophy, or whatever…
Anyway, this is just a story with no dramatic or climatic ending. Just a tale to tell.
But, it may give you a pause for a thought. What does retirement mean to you? What would your life look like if you stopped doing what you are doing? What would you become? What would your life become? And, what would you do with your time?
