I Saved the Life of a Cat

I saved the life of a cat the other night.

To tell the story… My lady and I were sitting around and watching TV.  You may, or may not have heard about this, but, the coyote population, across the greater L.A. and Orange County region, has grown vastly. They are all over the place. Even at places you wouldn’t expect like across some of the beaches.

I’m all about nature and life and all of that good stuff. But, the problem has arisen that this vast, and ever-growing population of coyotes, they need to eat. So, they have been attacking pets and, even in a couple of cases, small children.

There’s a field behind where I live. And, every now and then you hear the coyotes going wild, howling, etc.

The other night, like I said, we were sitting around watching TV and I hear them start to go wild. I also could hear that a cat was in a battle for its life in the middle of them. I couldn’t see any of this. It was dark. But, I could hear it. …The coyotes going nuts and the cat hissing and scrapping and… A group of them probably had it cornered.

It was upsetting.

I said to my lady, “I wish there was something I could do about this.”

Then, out of nowhere, it came to me. I got up, walked over to the window, and clapped my hands very loudly one time. It all stopped. The coyotes stopped howling, and the cat stopped doing all of that cat kind of stuff. I believe what I did was to distract them for that second which gave the cat time to escape.

I felt better and I am sure the cat did as well.

I’ve said this before, I do not know why people let their cats roam wild. No matter where you live, it is not safe and their life-time is drastically reduced. This is especially the case when there are coyotes in the neighborhood.

But, the bigger lesson to learn here is that, in life, sometimes all you need to do is to distract the attacker, even if just for a second, and this gives the victim the chance to get away.

Think about this. Think about this the next time you hear some one of some thing in distress. If you can just give them that moment of distraction, you may just save their life.
