Everybody Knows Everything About Me

I was speaking with my lady, and she told me about how they were having one of those high-end manager meetings and one of the brass came up with the idea that they should go around the circle and have everyone tell the group something that no one knows about them. Personally, I always think all that kind of stuff is stupid. It’s like the same guy, (I think), sets up things where all the top players go bowling or go to Disneyland together and stuff like that to build team spirit. I call bullshit on all of that. It’s just a mind game. Keep a job a job and keep it professional. Anyway, that’s what I think…

I asked her what she came up with? She said she told them that she was a Yelp Elite Allstar. As we often joke to each other, she also proclaimed to them, “She’s an unpaid intern for Yelp.” Okay… That was a good one, I thought. Other people spoke about being secret artist, gun enthusiasts, and stuff like that.

“What would you tell them,” she asked. I laughed, “What could I tell ‘em? Everybody knows everything about me.”

I believe we exist in this really interesting time and space of reality where all of our everything can be out there if we allow it to be out there. Think about all the vloggers out there who take you on a visual tour of every element of their life. Certainly, I’m not like that. I doubt many people would be all that interested as I’m not a cute young lady. Happy

But, via my words, typed here on this keyboard, I have revealed a lot about myself. Even here. Even right now. I’ve been blogging for a long time now, telling you my life everything: what I think, what I believe, what I live, what I have lived, what I do, and why I do what I do. Before that, I did it via poetry, literature, and articles. So, it’s all out there. What could I tell them?

In all of this, I always find life and what life reveals very interesting. Maybe even more so, I find it very interesting how people interpret what you reveal. Just this morning, someone pointed me to a new review of one of my ancient films. It was very well written, and it was not focused on biased negativity, misquoted philosophies, or unfounded facts as is so often the case. What I did find interesting, however, is due to the fact that I have written and spoken so much about Zen Filmmaking, Indie Filmmaking, my technique(s) , and the like, people believe they know my method—that they know what I’m about. But again, all I read was what was wrong.

So, this brings me to the question… Even though you tell people the all and the everything about yourself, do they/can they even grasp the who and the what you truly are? Even though you explain it to them, do they have the mental capacity to understand the YOU and not simply place a label upon you—on what you think and what you feel, based upon their own internal programming. Can they ever truly understand who and what you truly are and why you do what you do? You can spell it out for them. But, can they/will they ever truly understand the YOU that is the YOU?

Think about it.
