Be Positive
For those of you who may not know, in Japan, there is this who Hello Kitty Goth Subculture. Mostly, defined by young ladies who dress up with their interpretation of Goth clothing and hairstyles, but embrace this subculture with an emphasis on Hello Kitty. I Love it!
It has been going on for quite a long time now. I don’t know exactly how long, but its been years.
If you are walking around Harajuku, you can usually see a few young ladies dressed in this style. Or, in Ginza on the weekends, when the street is shut down to traffic. And other places, particularly around Tokyo…
The other day this one lady who embraces the Goth lifestyle, based out of Austin, was presenting some of her content. She was showing this lady around her place, and she stated, “I didn’t want her to think I was a Hello Kitty Goth.”
The thing was, she was showing off all of her very dark and, in my mind, demonic collection of things. You know, like old, petrified rats, and human bones, and actual human skulls, and the like. I mean really dark shit. I just don’t like that kind of stuff.
I remember there used to be this reality show, based around this shop in the Haight, in San Francisco, where the owners and staff would go around a collect all of that kind of stuff and then sell it in their shop. I visited that shop a few times, but, (again), I am just not into those people and that stuff that worships and idolizes death and decay. I love life!!!
Anyway, the piece the Austin lady presented was fairly short. That’s a good thing, for had it been any longer, I would have turned away and moved on. But, it did make me realizes… …Me, who’s been into Goth since before it was even called Goth… I will take a Hello Kitty Goth any day over the ones who worship death and darkness. How about you?
