Content Creators

I really wish somebody would explain to me how Content Creators make all that money doing what they do. I mean, what do they do?

It’s kind of like there’s this commercial in rotation right now where this young Content Creator is talking to these older people and they’re asking him what he’s doing in his video. He tells them he’s trying on a hat. They ask him,  “Oh, you’re shopping for a hat?” “No.”“Oh, you sell hats?” “No?” I’m just trying them on.” They all sit there baffled, finding it hard to understand what the young man even means and what is actually taking place.

In some ways, I get it. Don’t you? I mean, so many Content Creators do what they do. And, god bless them! But, I just do not understand how that equals making so much money. Can you explain it to me?

Every now and then I’m watching some breed of reality TV, and they’re featuring the lifestyle of a Content Creator. They’re living super large in NYC, where it really is not cheap to live! But, they’re totally ballin.’ They’re ballin’ by creating content. But, how do you make that much money as a Content Creator?

I was in the lounge at this airport In Manila recently. I had a couple hour layover between flights. So, my lady and I were just sitting there. She was looking at IG on her phone, I was enjoying a glass of wine, and we’re just killing the time like you do in one of those lounges. These two Content Creators came and sat down a little bit in front of us.

From what I could deduce, as they were speaking French, they were from France. They were two men who looked very much sign-of-the-times. They both had long hair, tied up in buns, and beards. They were obviously lovers the way they kept touching each other. But, as they sat there, they started to unpack two very high-end laptop computers, in association with a couple of mics, a small audio mixer, and stuff like that. My first thought was they are Content Creators. My next thought was, are they going to turn on their cameras, and do their bit, while I’m sitting in the background. I’m going to have to move!

Luckily, all they did was set up. And, once everything was set up, they took a glance at each other, and then they just started to talk and talk and talk and talk. They were having this really deep discussion about I don’t know what. I was a little too far away to actually hear what they were saying. I could only see what they were saying. But, this conversation went on for about twenty minutes. Then, as quickly as it began, it ended. They looked at each other, smiled, rubbed each other on the legs, and shut down. They put their computers away.

Obviously, these two men have a following. They were making a Podcast or something similar. And, they were putting it out there to the masses.

It seems like everybody has a Podcast now. Sometimes the video feeds on these Podcasts come into my feeds on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or something like that. Even Billy Corrigan, the founder of one of the greatest bands that arose out of the ‘90s, Smashing Pumpkins, he has a Podcast, where he interviews people from all areas of the entertainment business. Why he does that, I don’t know? But, nonetheless he does.

Again, it seems like everybody is doing a Podcast. But who’s listening?

You know, I got a statement from one of my music distributors the other day. It was for my royalties from my music being played or used in commercials on YouTube. It covered the last three months. How much did I make? I made a total of $198.97 for over a million plays. Not a big fee, but sizable enough to put it in the bank. The thing was, that was how much I made. How much did YouTube actually pay me? $18.24. Somehow, something in that equation just doesn’t add up.

Speaking of YouTube, and Content Creation, and all of that kind of stuff… I have movies on YouTube that have had over a million views. Other Zen Films that I’ve created have had well in the hundreds of thousands of views. How much have I made from them? Zero. Why? Because there’s nudity in those films and YouTube does not monetize movies with nudity. So, YouTube is making money off of those films, but I’m not making a dime. Explain that to me.

So, I would love to be a Content Creator and be out there making loads and loads of money for going into a store and trying on hats. And/or doing something the similar. But, I just don’t get it? I really don’t get it? How do Content Creators make so much money? If you have an answer, if you have a pathway, if you want to sponsor me, let me know. Happy
