Where You Place Your Focus

I had an interesting experience the other day. I came to interact with this person that I really hadn't had any interaction with, on any level, for quite some time. Pretty much the first things out of their mouth was, “I don't like you and you don't like me.” Wow! Immediately, I responded, “I don't have any ill will towards you whatsoever.” And, I don’t!

Why that person feels that way about me, I guess I can't really explain. Pretty much everybody likes me. I'm a nice guy! But, in that statement I just made, and in the statement that person made to me, it really goes to illustrate how people operate from their own and individual life perspective. Me, I see everybody as a friend. Even if I may disagree with what they think or what they do, I never see them as an adversary. I simply see them as operating from a different life perspective than my own.

I guess this is a good time to ask you the question, How about you? Are there people you immediately dislike, people you don't even really know, as is my case with this person and myself? Or, do simply allow all people to be as they wish to be?

It's kind of an interesting period in history right now. There is, and has been, so much going on via the spectrum of global political power over the past few years. Well… I guess that has been the case for a long while now. Maybe forever… But, it just seems like the world is vibrating with a lot of hurt in this here and now. Anyway…

We are on the day after Election Day here in the U.S. And, there was what is being called a, “Democratic Tsunami,” overtaking Congress and the Senate. It obviously illustrates a time for change.

Though I'm certainly very aware of politics, and I'm certainly very aware of the implications of what occurs when a certain political party is in power. This being said, I try not to let politics disturb my inner peace or the way I feel and/or operate, because, if I do, like a lot of people, I would be upset all the time. And, I don’t think that's the way I want to live my life.

There's been some administrations that I've really supported. There's been others; not so much. But, in the reality of this reality, all I can do is cast my vote, and let the cards fall where they may. I may not like the overall result of a specific election. But, all I can do is live with that outcome.

Again, how about you? How impassioned are you by politics?

You know, when I spoke with this person the other day, the person I referenced at the beginning of this piece, I saw how they truly operated from a position of anger. I mean, you could just feel it with every word they spoke. This is something I've noticed about that individual ever since I first met them. But, like in all things life, you may have to interact with a person like that. And, just like in politics, you may not necessarily like the outcome of the behavior of that person. But, What can you do? You just have to let them live their destiny the way they choose to.

Me, I really dislike the feeling of anger. I don't want to be angry. How about you?

I get it, some people find anger as some source of motivation. But, that's them. That's not me.

It's kind of interesting, in a sidebar sort of way… A while back, the actor Steve Guttenberg, and what he talks about, began to come into my feed. I don't follow him or anything like that. But, what I find is that what he does is he takes specific life events that he lives—that he's living, and kind of like what I do in this blog, he philosophizes about his feelings about those events, what other people may learn from them, and all of that kind of good stuff. It's really kind of interesting.

I never have met the man. Though, as I live here in L.A., I used to see him at this one restaurant I frequented. …Actually, one of my favorite restaurants of all time that has since gone out of business, Kate Mantellini's. Anyway, that's not really important or a part of this piece.

What is important is that, we can each find a positive way to express our understandings about our reality, and in doing so, perhaps make the world just a little bit more of a positive place. And, maybe influence other people to be just a bit more positive.

For example, I'm not really one of those people who wants to talk to my cell phone and/or put my face out there, discussing my philosophies about my daily realities, the way I do here in this blog. I just don't really live that kind of vanity or anything. And, I doubt that you'd want to look at my face all that often. Happy But, I do appreciate Guttenberg's method. That's his method. It's getting positive energy out there to the world. And, that’s a good thing.

So, if I can come back to
you here again, if only for a second, how much positivity do you spread out to the world on a daily basis? When you encounter a person who's really embraced in anger and negativity, like I encountered the other day, can you meet them with peace, calm, kindness, and good vibes? Or, do you descend to the level that they operate from, and let them drag you into the world of negativity, anger, and all of that kind of stuff, like this person attempted to do with me?

At the end of the day, whether you're living just in the small reality of your own world… Or, if you’re spread outward and are interacting with other people on the level of their reality… Or, if you're taking your knowledge and your feelings and your philosophies out to the greater whole of humanity, are you doing it from the perspective of positivity? Is what you are saying and doing actually helping, as opposed to hurting?

We all know what goodness and positivity are. We can all feel the beneficial results of people we interact with who behave in that manner and operate from the perspective of goodness and kindness. This is the same when we interact with people who follow the opposite path. As all life choices come back to you. And, like I always say, “All life begins with you.” So, who are you? What are you? Do you live your life from a position of truth, kindness, goodness, and positivity? Or, do you live it from the perspective of the opposite?

In closing, here, I believe, is one of the subtle elements of the reality of this reality. A lot of people pretend to be positive, claiming that what they are doing is positive. But, what they are actually doing is unleashing something negative. Have you ever encountered a person like that? Are you a person like that?

Ultimately, all life comes down to what you do in this moment, right here, right now. All life comes down to what you spread out from yourself in each moment of your existence. If what you are spreading hurts people, is negative, is any of those kind of things, it's really not a good thing. Even moreover and more importantly, when you meet somebody who hits you with anger or negativity, smile at them, be nice to them, respond with kindness, and maybe, just maybe, it will alter their frame of consciousness, if even for only a moment. Thus, by forever embracing a mindset of positivity, by that simple action, you may make this world just a little bit better.
