There’s Nothing Wrong with Being a Buddhist

Here’s what I believe… Any religion that says you are a sinner for not believing what they believe or not worshiping the god that they worship is wrong. It’s just false.

For example, let’s look at Christianity… How many people have been killed due to Christianity? All one has to do is to look to the history of campaigns like, The Crusades, and there is an easy place to find an answer to that question. How many people have lived a life based in guilty due to self-imposed or forced feelings that they have done something that was against the doctrines of Christianity?

Don’t you think all of that kind of stuff is wrong? Yet, people who follow monotheistic religions like Christianity are so judgmental of those who do not adhere to its teachings.

Certainly, this mindset is not solely based in the Christian doctrine. This ideology spans many/most religions.

Where does the ideology come from where one religion is right and another one is wrong? Isn’t that simply something that is programmed into the believers via the teachers of the sect based in the written documents that were created by people who wished to tell others what they should believe and why. Remember, god, (however you define that concept), never wrote any of the scriptures. They were written by man.

Some religions are far more open to accepting the belief that others possess. Sure, at the heart of any religion is its believers. And, they believe what they believe. But, think about this, what if a person had never heard about the teachings of Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, or any other religion, would they believe what they believe? Would their belief in what that religion teaches arise out of the abyss? The answer to that question is no. People believe what they believe because they were taught to believe it. They only hear about their native religion, or other religions, via the writings and the speaking of people.

Some claim to know the ways of god. Some claim to speak to god. Some even claim that they are god. But, is that truth, egotism, lies, or simply insanity? Think how many religious teachers have been found out to be frauds.

So, what are we left with? What we are left with is that you can believe anything that you wish to believe. That’s your choice. But remember, your choice to believe, whatever it is that you believe, was never an organic development in your own mind. Did you know about god before you knew about anything else. Was there ever a time in your life that someone was not talking about god, and religion, and what one should or should not believe, or how one should or should not act based upon their religion? The answer to that question is no.

For most, god is an excuse to try to dominate the mindset of others, unleashing control via guilt and the promise of damnation if you do not behave in the manner that they deem fit, based upon religions scripture and teachings. But, how pure is the person who states such things? Does anyone who tells you how to believe, why and what you should believe, and how you should behave, due to what they believe, actually hold the truth? Are the perfect conveyer of absolute religious truth or are they simple trying to make themselves a Some Thing claiming that they know something that you do not and that you must follow what they teach based upon what they were taught.

Religion is nothing more than a power trip. A way to get people to behave and be guided by the mind of the egoist who believes they know more than someone else.
