Be Positive
There’s this restaurant that I like to go to when I’m in Tokyo. Well… Actually, there’s a few. But, for the sake of this discussion, let me tell you about this one place.
It’s a small upstairs establishment. It’s one of those places that if you didn’t know it was there, you’d never know it was there.
It’s run by two people. There’s the main man, an older, some would say, elderly guy. He’s the owner and the main chef. And, this very nice woman. She may be his wife. I don’t know?
To get there, you go up these stairs. You tell the lady you’re there. Then, she will tell you wait outside. Wait in the stairwell. Wait, even if there are available tables. Wait, until she’s ready to deal with you.
When she is ready to deal with you, she will call you inside. Sit you down. Give you a menu. Then, let some time pass, and she will come back.
The thing about this establishment is, though they offer a limited menu of a few different items, the spaghetti they make there is so good! I mean, it is really-really good! Probably the best spaghetti I’ve ever had. Forget Italy, this is Tokyo.
If you go there, you’ve got to order it.
The way it works is, the lady part of the equation makes each bowl of spaghetti individually. No pre-cooked spaghetti here. So, if you’re sitting there with someone, like I’m usually there with my lady, one person will get their bowl of spaghetti before the other. Don’t let it get cold while waiting for the other bowl to arrive. You’ve got to eat it when it’s warm.
I don’t really know what she does or how she does it. Though you can watch her making it, as the kitchen is just behind a counter. But again, it’s really-really good.
The thing is, you can tell that she makes each bowl with a one-pointed perfection, guided at excellence. No bowl is less than another. No customer is better than another. Each bowl must be done exactly as to their method.
With this as a basis, the question here is, how much of your life do you live with that level of dedicated perfection? How much one-pointed focus do you put into what you do? If you do things on that scale, great! If you don’t, why not?
The truth of life is very simple. If you care enough to make each bowl of spaghetti perfect, then each bowl of spaghetti comes out perfect. If not, then it’s just hit or miss. And, the main thing is, living your life on this level of perfection is a choice. What choice(s) do you make?
You can be great. You can do what you do with a focused perfection, making all that you do great. Or, you can walk the path that most people choose. Your life, your choice.
Think about it.
