Be Positive

Strange Waves of Karma

Have you ever had one of those things happen to you that was a completely strange and unexpected experience? Maybe it was something very positive or maybe it was something very negative. But, whatever it was, it left you questioning, “Why?” I know I’ve experienced that.

For some, they attribute these occurrences to god either passing them a blessing or testing them. Some chalk it up to some sort of a curse, if it is/was something based in the negative. Others say it is karma. Repayment for living a life based in goodness or one based in the opposite.

Whatever it is, the causation factor may never be known. This being said, it does, nonetheless, leave one in a state of question.

I know some people inquiry for an eternity the answer to the question of, “Why?” Sometimes, much later some foundational answer is arrived upon. “It happened because…” But, even if the physical facts are eventually known, that does not change the question of, “Why did it happen to that person or persons?”

I think back several decades when a piece of the Manhattan Beach Pier broke off and struck a runner who was underneath the pier leaving them paralyzed. I always thought, “What is the karma in that?” Or, on a more known note, when some stage lighting fell on the great musician and composer, Curtis Mayfield leaving him paralyzed. Though he continued his career, what a great loss. And, what was the karma in that?

There’s always the other side of the issue, great things happing to someone, coming out of the seeming nowhere. Somehow those don’t really make the news or lock themselves into our questioning brain, however.

Of course, all of this comes down to the personal level. Think about something great or something negative that happened to you out of the blue. I believe we are all thankful for those good occurrences but question the WHY is anything that is bad.

At the source of all life is people, and what people do. Some do good things, and that is a good thing. Some do bad things, and that is a bad thing. But, in attempting to know why anything out of the ordinary happens to anyone, all that actually becomes is speculation based upon faith, or superstation, or all of those kinds of things which truly, if you look deeply into them, hold no real basis in truth.

So, why do good things happen to good people? Why do bad things happen to bad people? That answer is pretty obvious. But, why do bad things happen to good people? Why do good things happen to bad people? The answer to that is all left to question.

What can you do in the all of this and the all of everything as you pass through life? My speculative answer: Just be as thankful as you can when something good comes your way. Appreciate it. But, never gloat in it.

What can you do when something negative jumps out at you? Just be as positive as you can. Do not let it control you. Try to turn the situation around in some way, shape, or form. Try to find some way to make something good out of that something that you view is bad.

If you love hell, it becomes heaven.

Life comes at us from all directions. Hopeful only the good will find you. Just know, the simplest answer to any life equation is, the more good you do, the more good will come your direction. Just as the more bad you do, you more negative you will instigate and encounter.

Ultimately, there is no absolute answer to life. All you can do is be as good, as humble, as giving, and as caring as possible. And hopefully, as you pass through your existence, from this behavior you will encounter more blessings than curses.

The answer to, “Why,” you may never find. But, just know in all of the unknowing, life is only as good as you make it: how you feel, what you feel, and what you do to and for others and yourself. If you only think about yourself, yourself is all you will care about it. But, if you can step beyond selfishness, step beyond ego, and care, then, all of life becomes a kaleidoscope of cosmic movement where, even if you never know the answer, it was/will be beautiful and fun to experience.
