The Door You Didn’t Open
For each of us, in our life, there are those doors that we open—those doors that we go through that lead us to where we find ourselves in our life. Then, there are those doors that we do not open—the doors that we do not go through. From this, all we are left with is the question of what could have been.
This is just the reality of life. We make our choice, and from that choice, the next set of circumstances in our life are set into motion.
Whatever we do creates the next round of reality that we live.
What we live is what we live. What we don’t is what we don’t.
I had an interesting flashback the other day that in some ways kind of humorously ideally describes what I am speaking about here, in this now…
It was the early afternoon, and I was locked up in the arms of love with this young lady, if you know what I mean. There came a strong knock on my door. Though I got out of bed to see who it was. Looking through the peep hole, I saw it was this other young lady that I had met and, you know how it goes, had an attraction to, but nothing had jumped off, at least not as yet.
This was at a time when I was living in this small beachside apartment. I had told her where I lived. So, finding me wasn’t hard. But, she had never been there before—never come over. So, it was a bit of surprise to find her knocking on my front door.
But, as mentioned, I was with another young lady, and I did not wish to disrespect her, or have to explain my situation, and why she couldn’t come in, to the girl on the outside. I went back to my situation…
This other girl, however, every fifteen minutes or so, would come back and loudly knock on the door. This went on for like two hours or so. Each time, the girl I was with and I would hesitate what we would doing, look at each other, and smile. Finally, the knocking stopped.
After that, the door-knocking girl and I left a few messages on each other’s answering machines, but we never met up. She was a nice and very pretty young lady—I had all of the expected fantasies that a young-ish man would possess. But, nothing ever jumped off. Why? I didn’t answer the door.
Life is really as simple as that. If you answer the door, a world of chances opens up for you. You never know where they will lead. Maybe they will be super positive. Maybe they will be super negative. But, you never know. You never know, until you know. Remember, if you do not answer the door, all that is left if the question of, “What if?”
