Be Positive
To tell the story… I was driving down the 22 last Sunday, coming home after visiting the antiques stores in Orange. This car jams past me, very-very fast; maybe like one hundred miles an hour. BAP a rock hits my front window, putting a large crack in it. I’m guess flung from the tires of that car. God damn it!
So, I put it off for a couple of days. Just not wanting to deal. But, then I make an appointment, and this AM I take my car to Safelite to have the windshield replaced.
They told me it would take about an hour when I made the appointment. So, I thought, okay, I’ll just hang out. When I got there, however, they said it would be more like three hours. Fuck!
I didn’t want to waste my day, so I called up an Uber. $45.95 to get me home. But, what could I do?
The driver was a nice guy; very talkative.
Really, I don’t like to converse with Uber drivers or anybody. I’m really not a very friendly person anymore. Just too many times I’ve been fucked over by being nice. But…
We talked about him being an Uber driver since its inception. How he has had over fifty thousand rides. Wow! He spoke of how, in the early days, he used to make pretty good money. But now, they changed the pay scale and… He told stories of driving people from L.A. to Santa Barbara, to Fresno, and even to Vegas. That’s crazy… I’m sure he has a lot of stories to tell with that much milage under his belt.
He got to speaking about how he used to live in a one-bedroom apartment with his wife and his three kids. The kids slept in the bedroom and his wife and him on a pullout couch in the living room. He spoke of how life was good then. Then, a two-bedroom opened up next-door. His wife wanted to move, so they did. From that, his rent went up nine hundred dollars. Now, they can’t afford to go to Mexico to visit their family three times a year anymore.
It was a bit of a long drive from Safelite to where I live. So, a lot of talking went on. Nice guy.
I get home. I give the driver the top level, 5-Stars and a twenty-five percent tip. I do some work at home—go out and have lunch with my lady. Then, a few hours later, my car is ready. My lady drives me the forty minutes back to Safelite.
Driving home, I start to hear a lot of noise coming from my glass. That is not good or right. It continued to get worse. Damn it!
I called them. No answer. I texted them. No response. Finally, I get home and call the main number. A customer service rep puts me on hold, and calls the location where I had my work done, and I am set for a redo tomorrow. What a day/days life fucker. It’s really annoying. I’m going to have to get up and take my car back to them early tomorrow morning. I’m definitely going to write another Yelp review about them. Last time I went there it was a four. This time it will be a one.
…Just a waste of time and money!
But, this is life, you know… This is the way it is. Some people don’t give a fuck about the shitty jobs that they do. Most could care less about fucking over the life of someone else. They’re getting paid, so who cares? It shouldn’t be that way/I wish it wasn’t that way. But, that is the way it is.
Truly, do you really care about the way you affect someone’s life that you don’t know? Do you really care if you cost them time and money and… If you do, good for you. You are one of the rare ones. If you don’t, what does that say about you?
So, here we are. This is life. Sometimes, as the saying goes, “Shit happens.” Then what? All you can really do is to take things for what they are worth and try to make the most of them. It’s not right. It’s not fun. But, what other choice do you have???
